THE POETRY OF A BELARUSIAN MOONPHASE

This Luch Moonphase is a reminder that not every watch is designed purely to measure time—some are made to celebrate it. Produced by the Minsk Watch Factory in Belarus, this elegant dress watch combines classical styling with one of watchmaking's most charming complications: the moonphase. Its slim two-tone case, Roman numeral dial, and warm brown leather strap give it a timeless appearance that feels equally at home today as it did when it was first introduced.

The white dial is richly detailed without becoming cluttered. Black Roman numerals frame the outer edge, while a finely printed minute track adds precision. At 12 o'clock, the deep blue moonphase display becomes the focal point, depicting the waxing and waning of the lunar cycle against a star-filled sky. A pointer date display at 6 o'clock balances the composition, creating a dial that is both functional and visually engaging.

Luch has been producing watches in Minsk since 1955 and remains the only watch manufacturer in Belarus. During the 1990s, the factory introduced its caliber 16853 quartz movement, featuring a true moonphase complication that follows the lunar cycle over approximately 29½ days—an uncommon feature in affordable watches of the period.
